This defies logic. Some people were having a picnic at a lake and letting their kids SWIM right next to an alligator. They don't seem to be afraid of it, and one guy even says its name is Pete. At one point a kid swings from a rope and lands a couple of feet away from the gator . . . but it just swims away.
