Carrie Underwood Responds To Halsey's 'You Should Be Sad' Music Video Nod

Halsey's new video for "You Should Be Sad" features the singer paying tribute to four of her idols, one being country music star Carrie Underwood. Halsey shared a tweet with fans explaining the inspiration behind the video.

"Xtina, Gaga, Carrie, and of course Shania, this was one loaded with nods to badass idols of mine," Halsey wrote in a tweet. "Had the vision to do a 'before he cheats' but instead about after he does haha."

The tweet caught the attention of Underwood who immediately responded to Halsey. "Woah, to be put in such royal company," she writes. "I can only pretend I'm that cool/beautiful/talented/strong. Thanks for the nod. Next time you're in Nashville, let's write!"

In addition to Underwood, Halsey also showed some love to another one of her idols from the country music world, Shania Twain. "Oh yes! Love it!! Flattered to be one of your badass idols @halsey," Twain responds on Twitter. "Watch the new video for You should be sad and spot the reference."

Halsey is best known for her pop hits including "Without Me" and "Him & I," though she's recently opened up about her genuine connection to country music. "The most petty and heartbreaking songs all come from country. I wrote YSBS on my living room floor on my guitar," she wrote on Twitter in response to a fan's question. "Lots of time in Nashville too."

"You Should Be Sad" will be featured on Halsey's forthcoming new album, Manic. The record is set for release on January 17.
