Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is asking a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit over redistricting. Two Democratic state senators are suing Gov. Greg Abbott over his plan for redistricting to be done in another special session of the Legislature. The lawsuit says the state constitution requires redistricting to be done in the first regular session after the release of U.S. Census figures. But the 2020 census was delayed by the pandemic. The plaintiffs say a federal judge must draw temporary maps for next year's elections. Paxton moved Wednesday the lawsuit should be dismissed, or at least suspended until redistricting is finished.
