How Well Do You Know Your El Paso Mascots?

I had the pleasure of representing our sister station Power 102 by being the official MC at the inaugural March Mascot Madness competition held at Freedom Crossing at Ft. Bliss and I had a blast! These mascots competed in some pretty tough but also fun competitions like go kart racing, soccer, inflatable pole jumping, and even a dance-off.

They all did amazing but at the end, their could only be one winner. This mascot was chosen not only for his athletic abilities on the courses, but also his interaction with the crowd, helping out when he didn't have to, dancing skills, and overall chutzpah! The winner, representing El Paso Community College, was Tejano Jack, or "TJ!"

But being a mascot is no easy task. There is A LOT that goes into putting on all the gear; ice bags, battery powered fans, handlers, (the people who help the mascots around), higher risk of dehydration, plus the difficulty of just getting around with oftentimes huge feet, huge hands, huge heads and lack of visibility. However you also get to be someone else and portray a beloved character. Someone the kids may scream from or run to, but always someone that gets attention, (watching me drive 3-4 mascots on a golf cart with their huge heads leaning off to the side is certainly worth watching).

With that being said, all of our participating mascots deserve some love so I've created a matching game: Can you match the mascot to the business or organization they represent? The first list is the name of the mascots, and below are the answers. No cheating! Let's see how well you know your El Paso mascots and next tie you see one walking around, just know that they are working hard for you so show them some love.

Special thanks to Freedom Crossing for hosting this free event for the community, and of course, thank you to all the military men and women and their families. Looking forward to seeing who will win the championship next year!
