Fires in Ruidoso, NM

As of the making of this post, Ruidoso NM is being evacuated due to uncontained wildfires.

According to Ruidoso-NM.gov: "The South Fork and Salt Fires, discovered on Monday, June 17, 2024, on the Mescalero Reservation west of the Village of Ruidoso, are active wildfires currently spanning lands in Mescalero, Otero, and Lincoln Counties. Mandatory evacuation orders are in place, and approximately 500 structures have been impacted. This is a full suppression fire, with all available resources responding to secure the line and protect homes in and around Ruidoso. Due to the lack of cell service in the area, crews will set up communication lines. The Southwest Area Incident Management Team 5, a Complex Incident Management Team, will arrive today for briefing and assume command of the fire at 6:00 AM tomorrow, June 19.

Highway 380 is open through Hondo.

Both Highway 48 and Highway 70 at Apache Summit are closed, so the evacuation route is Highway 70 to Roswell.

State Hwy 48 is closed from Alpine Village/University to State Hwy 220.

US 70 is closed from mm 249 (intersection NM 244), 4 miles east of Mescalero, to mm 258, 2 miles east of Carrizo

Rio Ruidoso, named by the Spanish and meaning "Noisy River," is a village in Lincoln County NM. As of this post, the fire has 0% containment and people are mandated to evacuate their homes and businesses.
