I've mentioned this before that I am part of a non-profit group called Guardians of the Children. We are an international child advocacy group of bikers, and the chapter here in El Paso that I am part of is called the "Sun City Chapter". This past weekend, the chapter in Mooresville, North Carolina hosted our Guardians of the Children National Event. Chapters from all over Canada and the US showed up to come together for the cause of combating child abuse. We heard from guest speakers about childhood trauma, learned more about board positions within our organizations, met brothers and sister from different chapters, ate, drank, shopped, raised funds, and of course for those that had their bikes, rode motorcycles on and round the beautiful city of Mooresville. The city was welcoming and inviting because they know what we do for children who have been abused and have to testify in court.
I've been a child advocate for a long time, and I have been gifted this platform and therefore I feel I have the obligation to use it for good. Everyone has their cause that they fight for, and mine is advocating for abused children. I want people in our city to understand and know who we are because we want to be a resource for our community. Whether you have or know a child that may have to testify in court, you'd like us to give an anti-bullying presentation, (we have presentations geared towards all school-aged levels), be a part of your resource fair or event, or be involved in a way that you think would help serve the children in our community, please don't hesitate to reach out!
The people I met and the emotions I felt and the power that was radiating from so many selfless people I was surrounded by will not soon be forgotten. It re-energized me and made me more grateful to be a Guardian. I wish I could accurately explain and describe the feeling of being surrounded by so many people who would quite literally give their life for a child in danger, people you never knew before yet being instantly connected to on such a deep level, but I can't. Just know that if you ever see a biker with a Guardians of the Children patch, try to forget what you THINK a biker is, and know that is someone mighty and we are here for you.
If you are not local, you can go to guardiansofthechildren.com and search to find the chapter nearest you.
