My Tattoos

Recently on the show I talked about a Gen Z woman on Tik Tok talking about "tattoo regret" and how all of my tattoos have an important meaning to me. So even if the characters or themes go out of style, to me they will always mean something.

My first tattoo I got done in Minnesota while visiting my boyfriend's family. It was my oldest daughter's name on the back of my neck/ top of my spine. After that I have the generic Chinese symbols behind my ears that (hopefully) mean "mother" and "daughter" lol. (A Chinese friend from college saw them and said that one did in fact say mother but the other one said something to the effect of "other body)."

"Ad astra per aspera" is Latin for "To the stars through hardships" and was my first big visible arm piece. I have a woman wearing a motorcycle helmet, even though yes, it looks like a Viking helmet. It's a tribute to my husband's motorcycle helmet that has devil horns, (since I will never get his name tatted on me no matter how in love or married we are-it's bad luck). I have a cartoon character "Gir" from a show from my childhood called "Invader Zim," (that was a big hit with the high school kids when I was subbing), the shifting pattern for a motorcycle since I ride a Harley, and the little egg-shaped guy happily sitting on my left inner ankle is a doodle/ character my oldest daughter created called "Mr. Happy."

I have my road-name/ biker name "Flex" on my fingers along with "GOC" which stand for the bikers I ride with, "Guardians of the Children." The plum blossom on my leg is a cover up of basically the same tattoo only bigger and nicer. The roses are for my grandma who was given the honor of "The Yellow Rose of Texas," however yellow doesn't really stand out as a tattoo color. The moon is for serenity, and the spiderweb on my ear and elbow is because I love spiders. It's strangely one of the only bugs I am not terrified of, (go figure).

The double lines with the date is tribal in memory of my grandfather who passed away from the after affects of Covid September 19. The 2 lines symbolize together forever in memories, so to speak. I love the Foo Fighters hence the FF logo, I have my Hebrew name in Hebrew, ("Shifra)", the dumbbell because of my passion for weight lifting, a blue ribbon (not shown) for my commitment to child advocacy, the sisters from the 90's cartoon "Daria" that my oldest chose because that represents her and her sister perfectly, Texas with "just the tip" star for El Paso, and a skull with blue flames, also for child advocacy; bikers use the skull because it represents that deep inside we are all the same and the blue again because that color represents child abuse awareness.

Growing up I had the eating disorder anorexia and was sent to rehab where they used equine, (horse) therapy which is represented with the horse outline with the NEDA symbol on top, (National Eating Disorder Awareness). The stars across my back are for my daughter's name, the Pusheen was one my little one picked, and my mermaid is representative of a place I lived in for short while where I was going through a really hard time , San Marcos aka the mermaid capital, and got out of a really bad situation.

There are a couple things I would change in my tattoos and one I do regret; I wish the plum blossom on my leg fit the curve of my leg better, and instead of getting 11:59 on my wrist in honor of my grandpa I would change it to military time so it read "23:59"

I have more tats but that's a pretty good overview! Most painful one I would have to say was the inside of my bicep, behind my knee, and elbow. Do you have any tattoos, or do you have "tattoo regret?" Are you thinking of getting one? Have any questions for me?
