According to laire.com, LARPing (live action role playing), is "an interactive form of storytelling where players take on the roles of imaginary characters and act out scenarios in a shared physical environment. Players assume the identity of their characters and use various props, costumes, weapons and other objects to create an immersive, fictional world."
Amtgard is a local LARPing group here in El Paso that meets every Saturday at Album Park. Their kingdom here is "Kingdom of the Burning Lands" which encompasses El Paso, Alpine, Alamagordo and a small city outside Alberquerque, NM. This group has a more "medieval times" theme with their role playing.
Every Saturday, Amtgard holds an annual "food fight" against other kingdoms. For the entire month of September, they are hosting a variety of activities including building a canned food boat with a pirate theme, a silent auction on Facebook, a tournament where you can sponsor a fighter, charity miles, and more, all to raise money, food, and awareness for various local agencies combating food insecurity within their kingdom. This means that funds and food that they collect will be given to local organizations like El Pasoans Fighting Hunger, local churches, and local foods banks.
