The historic Tropicana hotel and casino in Las Vegas has been demolished as of early this morning. People were able to see the live implosion at ballylive.com, complete with a 555 drone show and fireworks leading up to the demolition. The drones formed words and the final countdown, counting back from 10, leading to the final grounding of the building.
Many people in the border city have some sort of connection with Las Vegas because of the proximity. I personally have family there and a very personal connection with the Tropicana. It's where my husband and I had our dance and reception. The Tropicana had a very cool Havana style night club where we had a very intimate but insanely fun wedding night with our close friends and family. Afterward we stayed in their honeymoon suite. For years after, the Tropicana was our go-to hotel when in Vegas.
The area will now be home to a 33,000 seat Major League Baseball Stadium for Oakland Athletics. The Tropicana stood from 1957-2024.
