What has Given You "The Ick?"

What is the "ick?" According to times.com, "the term (ick), which is used liberally on social-media platforms like TikTok and among reality TV contestants, describes an abrupt feeling of disgust about someone you were previously attracted to, usually during the early stages of dating." It's like an instant turnoff, not to be confused with legitimate deal breakers, like cheating, abuse, or huge differences in moral or religious beliefs. Some examples of the things that have given people the ick are chewing too loudly, wearing socks with sandals, kissing their parents on the lips, etc.

Seeing as how I've been married going on 16 years now, I will tell you a few icks from relationships prior to my marriage and even a few I had with more current non-romantic relationships.

One of my BIGGEST icks, with anyone; friend, relative, child, etc, are eye laganas, (pronounced la-gah-nyas), or eye boogers/ eye gunk. This is one of my biggest icks and turnoffs, whether I'm talking to someone I just met or someone I've known for a long time. For me it triggers instant nausea and disgust and I can't focus on what the person is saying or doing. If I don't know them well enough to ask them to clean their eyes, (and WASH their hands of it), then I will try to hurry and leave as soon as possible.

Same goes for the white stuff that can form on the side of people's mouths when they talk. I had a professor in college who's class I love but I could literally NOT look at his face during lectures or I would instantly get nauseous. I will always remember that from college.

Final ick is not wearing socks with clothes toe shoes, (with the exception of high heels of course). wearing tennis, Converse, low cut shoes, even ballet flats without some kind of sock or liner is an INSTANT ick for me and I won't take your advice as serious.

What are your biggest icks? You can tell me by leaving a talk-back message on the free iHeart app, (download the app and look for 963KHEY Country and use the little microphone icon, just like leaving a voice message), or go find us on Instagram or Facebook and send us a message with your ick! You will remain anonymous on-air.
