Forty-two years ago this week, in 1981, George Strait recorded his first single "Unwound" in Nashville. It was George's first top ten single and is on his first album "Strait Country." It was cowritten by legendary songwriter Dean Dillion and was originally written for Johnny Paycheck. Paycheck had legal troubles at the time, in jail, and was unable to record the song, so it went to George and was the start of his million selling career. This photo is of a "test pressing" where the song was rushed to an Austin Texas radio station. That's why the label wasn't printed and was handwritten and it was mentioned to the disc jockey that Strait was from the Austin area. Great part of Country Music History!
