Dolly Parton Donates 200K To Volunteer Firefighters

Country music icon, Dolly Parton is tugging her purse strings.

The “I Will Always Love You” singer has made another donation. This time, to the fine tune of $200,000 from her My People Fund to help first responders in East Tennessee. The money will be divided among eight volunteer fire companies in Sevier County, which serves the community in which she was raised. $40,000 is being set aside to build an education center, which will be used by the fire and police departments in the area.

"It is only fitting that the last of the My People Fund will go to those who were the first to respond to the fires," Parton said in the press release. The My People Fund was created in the wake of the 2016 wildfires that devastated East Tennessee.

Dolly used the My People Fund to help residents who lost their primary homes in the fires by giving them $1000 a month for four months and then sharing checks for $5000 per family on the fifth month.
