Keith Urban Recalls Seeing Harry Styles & The 1975 In Concert

Keith Urban stopped by The Bobby Bones Show to talk about his Las Vegas residency at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, new music and other things happening in his life right now.

Urban’s Las Vegas residency will allow him to be more creative with his performances. He told Bobby Bones he loves getting to explore new ideas and staying in one place to do shows lets him do more cool things because he doesn't have to pack up the stage and move from city to city. It also allows him to get much closer with the audience since it’s a more intimate theater.

When Urban gets sent songs, he hears them the same way listeners hear it for the first time. Urban’s new song, "Street Called Main," he didn’t write, but he loved the cinema of the lyrics and the melody the second he heard it. When it comes to his new music, he doesn't think he’d ever do an album of a different genre. He likes taking different genres and fussing them into what he makes now. To Urban, if it doesn't flow, it doesn't work. Urban has collaborated with many artists and one of the most recent he’s worked with is Breland. Urban shared that he reached out to him after reading an interview that he did. He said they speak the same language when it comes to the way they see music.

Urban said he’s generally grateful for where he is in life now and what he gets to do. He wasn’t always in a healthy place, especially early on in his career when he moved to Nashville and his music wasn’t taking off. After dealing with years of constant rejection, he’s extremely grateful for where he is now in life. When he’s having a down day, he gets through it by being aware that he’s not firing on all cylinders. He recalled a time when he was doing a small gig in his cover band and he told his drummer that the crowd was crap and the drummer asked him, “Do you every think it might have been you?” Now he thinks about that all the time.

Urban is used to being the one on stage and not in the crowd, so he loves when he gets to be a fan at a show. He shared the last time he enjoyed a show was when he saw Harry Styles in Paris and when he saw The 1975 at Ascend Amphitheatre in Nashville by himself. He said The 1975 have a spirit that you get immersed in so much that he considered driving to Atlanta the next night to see their show again. He realized that’s how fans want to feel after seeing a concert. They want the feeling of being at a show and like they were truly with the artist.

Some fun facts the show learned about Urban: He goes out to eat by himself all the time. The last three days he’s had lunch on his own. He said in those moments he really loves when it’s quiet. The song “Glimpse of Us” by Joji is the latest song to really touch him. Eric Church sends him obscure things all the time that he loves. He also shared that he would love to hear a cover of his song recorded.
