Ella Langley “rick rolled” her TikTok followers, but not in the way any of them would have expected.
Langley, 26, shared an 18-second clip of her cover of the late 80s hit, which she said has “been stuck in my head all day.” The award-winning singer-songwriter sat with her guitar and sang Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.” The song surged with popularity because of the viral “rickroll” bait-and-switch prank, which frequently teases unrelated content before surprising the viewer with the music video instead.
One TikToker commented that she “just got rick rolled by Ella Langley.” Others said, “being rick rolled by Ella wasn’t on my 2026 bingo card, but hey, I’m here for it,” and “sure I just got rick rolled. But it was by Ella. So that makes it sting a little less.” Another said the country star “should make an 80’s/rock n roll cover album,” and Langley replied that it would be “my dream.”
Most recently, Langley released “Choosin’ Texas,” a heartbreak ballad she wrote with Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and Joybeth Taylor: “Just when I thought I got him to fall in love with Tennessee/ I shoulda known better than to take him back to Abilene/ I put him right back into her arms/ I wasn’t a match for that kinda spark/ She’s from Texas I can tell by the way/ He’s two steppin round the room/ And judgin by the smile that’s written on his face/ There’s nothin I can to do/ It doesn’t take a crystal ball to see/ A cowboy always finds a way to leave/ Drinkin Jack all by myself/ He’s choosin’ Texas I can tell.”
